Abazab - Mobile Updating For Your Profile

I got the opportunity to take a look at the beta version of abazab. From their website:

“Imagine being able to use video to instantly share good times with your friends, record messages, publish video blog entries and share snippets of your life as easy as sending a text message. This means you can be spontaneous to record video anytime and where.”

Basically, abazab allows you to send pictures, messages, and videos that will instantly display on a widget that you place on your web page, blog, profile, etc. Unfortunately Wordpress had a little trouble accepting the HTML code within the post (Wordpress’s problem) so I can’t display a live example. But I did test it out by hardcoding it in other parts of the site and it worked very well. To check out a live example go to http://www.myspace.com/snakeriverconspiracy (part of the way down the page).

Abazab goes the extra step by allowing you to customize the look of your widget through a flash interface on their website. While I found the interface easy to use, there were still a few kinks and it was still on the slow side. I’m sure they will probably have those fixed by the time they launch to the public

Sending pictures and messages from my phone was really simple. Everyone receives a username@zab.bz account to send items into. The only problem I see here is that in order to send something to one of your friend’s widgets you have to know their username. I would suggest adding a feature where you could just send it to their phone number@zab.bz considering you will have their number already stored in your phone.

I see the point in uploading content to your own widget, but I’m not sure I understand why I would want to upload something to a friends widget. If I was going to send one of my friends a message or picture, I would just send it to their phone. Sending it to their widget is a very round about way of getting what I want delivered.

All in all it was fun to play around with, and if you are someone who likes including fun widgets on your profile then I reccommend signing up at their site.
