Popular open source software company Red Hat launched an open source Social Networking site named Mugshot. From their website:
“Mugshot is an open project to create a live social experience around entertainment. Mugshot makes it easy to share web pages and show off your music tastes…Mugshot is designed and developed in the context of an open source community project.”
There are still in a private beta, but from what I can tell it seems that they have some quality stuff in the works. I think the open source platform could produce some very powerful and unique features especially with a reputable company such as Red Hat backing it. I’m currently trying to get a peek inside so I can get a better opinion.

[...] Yesterday I announced that Red Hat had launched a new open source social networking platform. Thanks to Bryan Clark, one of the Mug Shot Developers, I was able to get in to take a closer look. I was very indifferent with what I saw, but I am keeping a very positive outlook for Mugshot considering that they are in their infancy, and that I like the potential of what open source could bring to the table. In addition their goals for the future excite me (more on this later).
