Unfortunately I recently got really sick and basically couldn’t function for around 5 days. A lot has happened in the past week in the social networking space so to get caught up I have listed of a few of the most notable things.
Myspace Careers - Myspace in conjunction with SimplyHired, has launched Myspace Careers; a section of myspace dedicated to finding a job. This is a great move for SimplyHired as it will drive massive amounts of traffic through their listings, however, I don’t think it adds that much value to Myspace. It is just throwing one more feature up onto the pile for the sole purpose to only make the pile bigger.
Boompa Launches - Another SN for motor vehicle enthusiasts has launched. Boompa allows you to show off your ride while looking at others. From their site:
“Boompa.com is a community driven online vehicle encyclopedia devoted to showing off, tweaking and catalouging anything that drives, flies, floats or pedals. Registered users can showcase their vehicles in their boompa “garage” as well as write guides dedicated to vehicle tweaking, maintenence and humor.”
This niche is nothing new. I previously wrote about site RideRoom.com, which is accompanied by a host of competitors including Carspace. Despite this, Boompa clearly has the best design, UI, and feature set out of all the competitors and will probably attract a good following
NSA Targeting SN
Numerous news sources reported last week that the NSA is funding efforts to try and find a way to datamine various social networking sites across the net. From the article:
“The agency is reportedly aiming to combine personal information from social networking websites like MySpace and Friendster with details from banking, retail and property records, allowing the NSA to build extensive, all-embracing personal profiles of individuals.”
Great…so now will they be able to find how many degrees of friends I am from Osama Bin Laden? Or maybe they will find Al Qaeda’s secret group on Facebook.

Thanks for your comments on Boompa.com. We’re trying hard to get it right.
